Adult toys don’t make for scary toys

Oct 20

Mentioning the words ‘adult toy’ will either make you grin with anticipation, or produce a perplexed strain across your eyebrows and forehead, somewhat suspicious of what really qualifies as an adult toy.

While there’s no denying that adult toys aren’t exactly Lego, they’re not just limited to vibrators and dildos either. Surely the most common misconception of sex toys is that they must penetrate and/or make you orgasm. The thought of this may seem intimidating, awkward or even embarrassing to some.

Adult toys aren’t just about the obvious though. Forget your ‘Sex and the City’ Samanthas or late-night Channel 5 ‘sexperts’; outside of the mainstream sex toy bracket lies a whole host of fun things to play with – none of which are designed to make you feel anything but confident and playful.

A classic example would be handcuffs. What better a sexual tease then to build up the emotions with someone who is bound and restricted? If you really wanted to play along with the theme of handcuffs, then encourage your partner to dress up as a lawman or woman. Innocent, fun, and pain-free! To add to that dominated feeling, a blind fold will provide the ideal rush of anticipation about where your lover will touch you next.

Bondage (another scare word for some) may also provide some pleasant surprises in the bedroom. Again, this doesn’t have to be any kind of extreme sexual practice; rather, some of the pleasure toys that are designed for bondage play may be fun for all. Tickling your partner and their erogenous zones with a feathered toy will heighten their senses to no end. Meanwhile, a gentle crack of the whip will also get their nerve-endings on fire.

Finally, you could also argue that products like lubricants, oils and food treats also come under the adult toy banner. These are also a fun, and non-invasive, way of getting your partner into the mood without intimidation, but ones that will yield the same pleasurable results.
